Andrea Purkiss Elected MP for Hanover Eastern — A Historic First
Andrea Purkiss has made history as the first woman elected to represent Hanover Eastern in the Jamaican Parliament, carrying the People's National Party to a decisive victory.
The people of Hanover Eastern have spoken, and they have chosen change. Andrea Purkiss secured a decisive victory in the September 2025 general election, becoming the first woman ever to represent this constituency in the Jamaican Parliament.
Purkiss, a community advocate and educator with deep roots in the parish, ran on a platform of improved roads, greater access to clean water, expanded youth opportunities, and stronger community infrastructure.
"This victory belongs to every family in East Hanover who believed that things could be better," said Purkiss in her victory address delivered to a jubilant crowd gathered outside the constituency office. "I did not win this seat — the people won it. I am simply here to make sure their voices are heard."
The PNP leader congratulated Purkiss and called the result a sign of the party's renewed mandate across Jamaica. "Andrea represents exactly what the PNP stands for — community, service, and justice," he said.
Purkiss takes office with a clear mandate to prioritise road rehabilitation in the most affected communities, fast-track water supply projects for rural households, and work alongside the Hanover Parish Council to attract investment to the area.
Her first act in Parliament was to table a question regarding the status of the long-delayed road works on the Lucea main road corridor — signalling that she intends to hold the government to account on promises made to the people of Hanover.
