Road Patching Underway on Coastal Route from Kew Bridge to Great River

Long-awaited road rehabilitation work has begun along the coastal main road from Kew Bridge to Great River — a key route connecting communities across Hanover Eastern.

Residents along the coastal main road in Hanover Eastern have long raised concerns about the state of the road between Kew Bridge and Great River. Potholes, broken surfaces, and drainage problems have made the route difficult for commuters, farmers transporting produce, and emergency vehicles alike.

Road patching work along this corridor has now begun — a development MP Andrea Purkiss has been actively pushing for since taking office in September 2025. The coastal route is a critical artery connecting a number of communities and providing access to markets, schools, and health facilities.

"Good roads are not a luxury — they are how our farmers get their produce to market, how our children get to school, and how an ambulance reaches someone in an emergency. This work is overdue and I am glad it is finally moving," MP Purkiss said.

The MP has emphasised that this is a starting point, not a finish line. Several other roads across Hanover Eastern remain in poor condition and are on her active agenda for rehabilitation. She is working with the National Works Agency and the relevant ministries to prioritise the most critical routes.

Community members with roads they wish to flag as urgent priorities are encouraged to contact the constituency office directly.
