MP Purkiss Fights for Communities Excluded from Hurricane Melissa Relief

When government relief coordination bypassed communities across Hanover Eastern, MP Andrea Purkiss spoke out and demanded immediate support for residents left without assistance after Hurricane Melissa.

When Hurricane Melissa struck in late 2025, communities across Hanover Eastern were among the hardest hit. Roads were washed out, homes damaged, and residents in districts including Cascade, Maryland, Pondside, Cove, Jericho, and Chester Castle were left marooned — cut off from supplies and support.

What made the situation worse was that MP Andrea Purkiss was excluded from government relief coordination efforts entirely. With the opposition locked out of the process, many of her constituents were overlooked in the initial rounds of assistance.

MP Purkiss immediately raised the alarm publicly, calling out the exclusion and demanding that every affected community in Hanover Eastern receive the relief they were entitled to regardless of political affiliation.

"No community should be left behind because of politics. Every resident of Hanover Eastern who lost their roof, their road, or their livelihood deserves support — full stop."

Her intervention helped draw national attention to the communities that had been bypassed, and she continued to push for a coordinated response in Parliament and through direct community engagement on the ground.

MP Purkiss remains committed to ensuring that disaster response in Hanover Eastern is transparent, equitable, and reaches every district that needs it.
